Here we are in July and the choir is half way through the extra time they give to sing for our Sunday services. These two months of the year are my time of second guessing. Will there be enough people to sing four part music, three part or two part music, or only enough to sing unison? So I choose anthems and hope they will fit the people who are there on a particular Sunday. However with the talent we have in the choir, things usually work out OK. I am very grateful for their willingness to make this extra effort. Most choirs quit at the end of May and resume in September. Every church I have been in, I have asked this of the choir and tried to make them feel they were getting a really good deal to have the whole month of August off (except for starting rehearsals again) before returning at the beginning of September. Thank you choir for all the hard work you did this past year.
During August we will have special soloists, ensembles, and instrumentalists. If there is anyone in the congregation who would like to be a part of the August music, please let me know. I will be happy to work with anyone.
Music is the exaltation of poetry.
Both of them may excel apart,
but surely they are most excellent
when they are joined, because
nothing is then wanting to either
of their proportions;
for thus they appear like wit and
beauty in the same person.
