NotesFromFern

We are now two weeks into the Lenten season and working toward Holy Week and Easter. We would be very grateful for any part-time choir members to join us for Easter.

While we prepare for Easter, we are also thinking, planning and practicing for our May “Saturday Night at Trinity” program. This program on May 15 called “A Festival of Hymns – The Writers Tell Their Stories” – will include hymns from the fourth to the twentieth centuries. There will be a dramatic presentation by each author/composer before the number is sung. There will be solos, duets, choir ensemble and congregational singing, all done Acappella or accompanied by organ or piano, bells, and brass quartet. We are hoping to involve as many singers as possible as well as speakers and instrumentalists.

There will be Saturday rehearsals in March, April and May. Beginning on Wednesday, February 24, we will spend the first half hour of choir rehearsal practicing the cantata. This will make it easy for those who come to the Wednesday night dinners as rehearsal will begin immediately following the Holden service that we will use for worship following the meal. Please think about joining us for this special presentation. Gaye Mizell will be the stage director and she will be looking for people to play the parts of various writers. Speak to her if you are interested, or she will speak to you.

Please put Saturday, May 15 at 7:00 P.M. on your calendars. I think this will be a program that you will enjoy. Thank you.

On February 7, Fern's brother Frederick Sewell added beauty to our music with his violin. The first selection below is the anthem for the day;  the other four are the movements of Sonata IV for piano and violin by Handel.

During the weeks after Easter 2009, we used the less familiar seventh setting from the new hymnal, with Spanish tempos and melodies. You can hear the music here.

Then on May 31, the choir sang a wonderful  selection of spirituals --- listen to them here.
