It's hard to choose among all the great music of last year, but here's a sample, some from every season. The choir is well represented as well as some soloists.
"Cold December Flies Away” is the beginning of one of our lesser known Christmas hymns. We know that cold December has flown away, but living in St. Louis, we know that cold January will take its place.
Actually the only thing that will fly away for the coming cold months will be our “Snow Birds”. We always miss them and are so glad when they return. We will carry on with the hope of having no more tragedies in our bass section. We are grieving, as I know you all are, for Gene Sauer in the loss of his wonderful wife, Libby, and for Mark Thorpe in the freak accident that took the life of his beloved son, Paul. There are things in this life that are very difficult to understand and the only thing we can be sure of is that God has a plan for each of our lives and He loves us more than we can ever love anyone.
Looking back on our Advent/Christmas season, I want to thank all the people who made a special contribution to one or more of our services. First of all the choir who prepare each week for participation on Sunday morning. We had a rough fall with missing four rehearsals due to the brilliant performance of the Cardinals, but they came through week after week. Thank you, choir.
Lee Reynolds who plays the piano a couple of times each month is always willing to help me. Her daughter, Shari Telaar, is another one of the regular helpers both with the children and the choir. Special thanks to her for leading the 11:00 pm Christmas Eve service so beautifully with her guitar. Maggie Cox has graced us with her lovely cello playing several times this fall and other young people (Addie Ward, Matt & Eric Eagon, Audrey and Erin Kelley, Jenny Rempert, Luke Stephens) have shared their talents with us. thank you, one and all.
Peace and blessings on all of you as we worship and praise God in this New Year.
