August 29th was a big day for Trinity's Outreach to the Kirkwood community. Trinity partnered with WITS to sponsor an electronic recycling event in our parking lot. Approximately 175 cars visited Trinity and disposed of old TVs, computers, monitors, lawn mowers, refrigerators and you name it for recycling. WITS recycles the donations by retrieving the plastics, glass, metals and gases. Some of the items are refurbished for use by low income families. The end result of our event was a semi tractor trailer full of electronic gear that will not end up in a dump. The young people in the blue WITS shirts are working toward the award of a refurbished computer. Learn more about WITS at their website.
The event also promoted our new paper and clothing recycling bins. Donations to both of these bins were also made by Trinity visitors. Lastly, we collected donations of 45 jars of peanut butter and jelly for KirkCare.
Each car was given a "Thank You" sheet highlighting some of the good news happenings at Trinity this fall, including PDO, the blood drive and the PDO garage sale, along with an invitation to join us in worship.
The Outreach Committee is already planning other events directed at our local community, so stay tuned.
